Pakistan Railways is making big changes to improve its services for passengers and businesses. Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi shared that the department is expanding train routes to Central Asia and earning record revenues. In a recent update from Multan, he also shared that Pakistan Railways announced free Wi-Fi in more than 40 trains to give better travel experience. Solar energy will power 155 stations soon. These steps aim to modernize the railway system and support the country’s development.

Pakistan Railways earned around Rs83 billion in the past 11 months — nearly Rs6 billion more than the same period last year. This strong performance reflects growing public confidence and successful reforms. Alongside this, Pakistan Railways announced free Wi-Fi for over 40 trains, marking a major step toward modernization and better passenger service in 2025.

Passenger and Freight Trains Lead Revenue Growth

Out of the total earnings, passenger trains contributed Rs42 billion, while freight trains brought in Rs29 billion. Another Rs12 billion came from other services. These numbers highlight how both passengers and the business sector are depending more on trains. The strong performance of both sectors is helping the railway move toward self-reliance and better services.

Karachi Division Tops the Chart with Highest Revenue

According to officials, Karachi Division made the most revenue — Rs13 billion from passengers and Rs25 billion from freight trains. This shows how important Karachi is as a hub for both people and goods. The division continues to be the backbone of Pakistan’s railway economy.

Lahore, Rawalpindi & Multan Divisions Also Show Strong Growth

Lahore Division stood second, generating Rs10 billion from passenger trains and Rs0.75 billion from freight trains. Rawalpindi and Multan Divisions earned around Rs4 billion each from passengers. This progress across major cities highlights the growing public trust and the increasing use of train travel in Pakistan.

In his press conference, Minister Hanif Abbasi revealed that Pakistan Railways announced free Wi-Fi in over 40 trains soon, to improve the travel experience. He also said that 155 railway stations will be shifted to solar energy within two months. These upgrades are part of the government’s plan for Pakistan Railways modernization, aiming to bring smart, eco-friendly changes to the system.
